DJ Uiagalelei on relationship with Spencer Rattler, Gamecocks’ rivalry

Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had his first taste of the Clemson-South Carolina football rivalry before he was officially a part of the team. Uiagalelei was in attendance as a recruit in 2018 — the last time the Gamecocks visited Death Valley for the matchup. The Tigers’ were led by freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and won 56-35. Clemson won the College Football National Championship game that season. “I know my first game, [when] I came here, I came to the South Carolina/Clemson game on my [first] visit, and it was at home,” Uiagalelei shared in his Monday press conference. “But going there, going to an away game at South Carolina, it definitely opened it up and just the magnitude of the rivalry and how much it means to a lot of people. Not only here, people at Clemson, but also South Carolina fans as well.”

Clemson (10-1) and South Carolina (7-4) are both experiencing better records than last season. The Gamecocks’ are hot with a recent upset win over No. 5 Tennessee (now ranked 9th). Quarterback Spencer Rattler recorded his best career performance, throwing for 438 yards and six touchdowns.

Uiagalelei has fared well this season, completing 65.2% of his passes for 2,412 yards. He has thrown 21 touchdown passes and six interceptions in 336 attempts.
