A woman has died from her injuries after being struck by a van in Asheville last month, according to Samantha Booth with Asheville Police Department.A van was traveling north on Hendersonville Road near the intersection of Sweeten Creek Road at 6:18 p.m. on Nov. 11 when it struck a woman, Booth said.According to Booth, Stacie Rice Ramsey, 49, walked into the roadway to cross the intersection when she was struck by the van which had the right of way.Ramsey was transported to Mission Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Dec. 1, Booth said.The Asheville Police Department stress that safety is a shared responsibility of both drivers and pedestrians. Officers encourage pedestrians to be mindful of traffic laws regarding foot travel on the roadway. Whether crossing at a marked or unmarked intersection, it is important for pedestrians to keep alert to approaching vehicles, do not cross against traffic control signals, and remain vigilant of their surroundings until they safely make it across. Wearing bright clothing during the day and reflective materials at night to increase your visibility to drivers.Additionally, officers remind drivers to be aware of pedestrian traffic near and on the roadways. Drivers should have knowledge of and adhere to traffic laws pertaining to pedestrians on the roadway.
