The Crusaders, who hoisted the Division II baseball national championship trophy last June, the first athletics championship in school history, will go for a repeat at the College World Series from the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., starting on Saturday, June 3.North Greenville needed a walk-off home run in last weekend’s regional and staved off elimination to win two straight games against Mt. Olive to advance to a Super Regional, but the Cardiac Kids kept the drama to a minimum in the first game of the day on Friday.Behind seven home runs, including two each for DII home run career leader John Michael Faile and Pat Monteith, the Crusaders cruised to an early 10-0 lead en route to a 16-8 romp over Belmont Abbey before turning their attention to finishing off the two-game sweep. Faile added two more home runs in the second game, including the go-ahead 3-run home run in the 4th, and the go-ahead 2-run home run in the ninth as North Greenville finished off the Crusaders 10-7.Monteith had seven hits across the two games, including a 5-of-6 performance in the first half of the doubleheader, as six Crusaders had at least two hits in each game.Playing for the last time at Ray and Bea Dillard Field in Tigerville for the season, the Crusaders close the home campaign 31-1, and are 49-9 overall as they prepare for the College World Series.
