Matthew Smith, who has been deployed in Africa. He said he hadn’t seen his kids for an entire year, making it hard to keep the surprise to himself. “As soon as I left, I actually wanted to surprise the kids, because last time I surprised everybody. So this time, I wanted to just surprise all of the kids. It was a really hard secret, though to keep as time got closer. It was really hard,” Smith said.
