The Greenville Drive ring in their 17th season of baseball in the West End Tuesday night with an Opening Night celebration fit for kings.After capturing the 2023 South Atlantic League championship series last September for the second SAL title in club history, the Drive will honor the 17 players and four coaches returning from last year’s team ahead of their Opening Night game against Bowling Green. The Drive swept through the postseason with a pair of best-of-three sweeps in the division series against Hickory and the championship series against Hudson Valley to clinch the club’s first SAL championship since 2017.Manager Iggy Suarez and pitching coach Bob Kipper each return for their sixth season leading the ball club, which opened the year 1-2 in their opening weekend series at Greensboro.When the gates open at 6 p.m., the first 1,000 fans into the ballpark tonight will receive a commemorative championship bobblehead featuring Suarez and Kipper with the league title. The pre-game festivities start on District 356 at 5:30 p.m., and the on-field ring ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the ceremonial flag raising at 6:40, and a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.Fluor Field boasts a brand-new LED lights system this year, which will be used throughout the night with corresponding light shows from the team’s opening line up to the first rendition of “Sweet Caroline.”
