List: SC school districts with e-learning days, early dismissal for solar eclipse
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT THIS TIME AROUND. HI GRIFFIN. HI, CHRIS. YEAH, WE GOT ANOTHER SOLAR ECLIPSE HAPPENING IN NORTH AMERICA, AND IT’S COMING UP FAST LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AWAY. AND YOU KNOW, EVEN THOUGH WE’RE NOT GOING TO BE IN THE PATH OF TOTALITY IN THE UPSTATE, IT’S STILL GOING TO BE NOTICEABLE ALL ACROSS OUR AREA. YOU KNOW, I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE AMAZING, BUT IT WAS LIKE A MILLION TIMES MORE AMAZING. I ACTUALLY STARTED CRYING. REPORTER. IT’S A RARE CELESTIAL EVENT, A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE. WHEN THE MOON PASSES IN FRONT OF THE SUN, CASTING ITS SHADOW ON EARTH. GOT TO SEE GOD’S CREATION HAPPEN AND ALL THE SPLENDOR THAT WE HAVE IN THE UNIVERSE. AND BACK IN 2017, THE LAST SOLAR ECLIPSE IN NORTH AMERICA WOWED TENS OF THOUSANDS RIGHT HERE IN THE UPSTATE AS WE WERE IN THE PATH OF TOTALITY WHERE THE MOON COMPLETELY BLOCKS OUT THE SUN. I MEAN, THIS IS CHRISTMAS AND HALLOWEEN AND GETTING HAMILTON TICKETS AND ALL OF IT, RIGHT. HERE. AND LOOKING AT THE PATH FOR THE APRIL EIGHTH ECLIPSE COMING UP, IT WILL PASS TO OUR WEST OVER TEXAS AND MOVE NORTHEAST UP THROUGH OHIO AND IN THE UPSTATE, THE MOON WILL BLOCK OUT ABOUT 85% OF THE SUN. SOME OF THE SUN IS STILL ABSOLUTELY GOING TO BE COVERED BY THE MOON AGAIN. 85% OF IT. THAT’S A PRETTY DECENT AMOUNT, YOU KNOW, AND IT’S STILL GOING TO GET A LITTLE BIT DARKER. IT’S STILL GOING TO GET A LITTLE BIT QUIETER. SO IT’S DEFINITELY STILL WORTH CHECKING OUT. WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT IT’S NOT GOING TO BE THE SAME AS 2017. SO IT’S STILL IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT EYE PROTECTION TO SAFELY SEE THE NEXT ECLIPSE. IF YOU HAVE GLASSES FROM 2017, DON’T USE THOSE. YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO GET NEW ONES. I HAVE MINE RIGHT HERE. I’LL BE TRAVELING WITH THESE IF YOU DON’T HAVE GLASSES, ROPER MOUNTAIN WILL HAVE THEM. WE ARE EXPECTING TO GET OURS IN ABOUT MID-MARCH AND WE WILL BE GIVING THEM AWAY AT OUR FRIDAY STARRY NIGHT EVENTS AND OUR AFTERNOON EXPLORATION EVENTS. AND MAGGIE ALSO SAID THAT THIS NEXT ECLIPSE IS GOING TO BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM 2017, BECAUSE THE MOON’S ACTUALLY GOING TO BE A LOT CLOSER TO EARTH THIS TIME. SO IT WILL LAST LONGER, ABOUT TWO HOURS WHERE THE MOON’S GOING TO BE PARTIALLY OBSCURING THE SUN HERE IN THE UPSTATE. SO STILL SOMETHING FUN TO LOOK FORWARD TO COMING UP IN APRIL. FOR NOW, WE’
